- You didn't say better than what.
-
- Some of the DOS tools are horrid, for instance, Microsoft Visual C++.
- I can't fathom why people would buy this, except for the name.
- Borland is nicer for both beginner and advanced user (except that it
- doesn't link with lotus notes, sigh). Personally, I prefer the
- ability to use my own choice of editor, my own choice of debugger, and
- my own choice of compiler, not whatever happens to be thrown together
- into the same package. One of the primary reasons for throwing the
- pieces together into the same package initially was because you
- couldn't multitask easily under DOS. Stuff like that had been tried
- quite a few times before, and often it didn't go over to well with
- professional programmers (because it used to be that programmers were
- ver big on doing things their own way). It did work in some
- instances, Lisp machines being a prime example of one that worked
- and that no one has even come close to matching anywhere else.
-
- If you want a friendly environment, get a Mac. I don't own a Mac,
- and yet any day of the week I would recommend it to anyone over a
- Windows system. Sure, it costs a bit more, but it's worth it
- (it won't run UNIX, but if you're a UNIX hater to start with, it's
- a moot issue). Do you claim the DOS tools are better than a Mac?
-
- (Hmm, you said DOS and not Windows, I hope that's just a typo and
- that you seriously don't think DOS-not-windows tools were better than
- other solutions)
